RingUnion Top 5's - Dream WWE Matches That Should Have Happened!

RingUnion Top 5's - Dream WWE Matches That Should Have Happened!

This may just be my favourite thing about being a wrestling fan. Even though my love for Boxing runs deep, if a fight was announced tomorrow of Anthony Joshua vs Mike Tyson I wouldn't get excited about the aspect of the past vs the present in the Heavyweight division, I would feel sad that one of my favourite boxers to watch in the past will get murdered in front of a live crowd. Due to that darn ageing gene, athletes can't go on forever and two generations colliding can't happen in boxing without making it a very one sided contest. Yet at WrestleMania 18 an old man by the name of 'Hollywood' Hulk Hogan got into the ring with an in prime Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson for an instant WrestleMania classic. As a professional wrestling fan I am able to suspend my rational thinking and just get engrossed in the fact that a previous fan favourite and pioneer of wrestling will be getting in the ring with one of the current best in the business.

in this list I will run down the top 5 WWE matches that should have happened in WWE. The rules are:

  • The two participants must have been active members of WWE at the same time.

  • They must not have competed one on one on WWE television.

Let me know what you think of my list in the comments below and give me your lists to.

With that being said I'm Ryan from RingUnion and let us get started with the list and run down the top 5 matches that should have happened, or should I say, COULD happen, interesting...

Number 5 - Brock Lesnar vs Batista

Look at the rules! Before you tell me that these two giants went toe-to-toe in OVW, that doesn't count as it's not WWE television so suck it!

Brock Lesnar had one of the very best rookie years in WWE and he only went up from there. Lesnar entered WWE television with Paul Heyman as a monster, defeated The Rock to become the youngest WWE Champion at the time, left and became the UFC Heavyweight Champion and then came back to end The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak. 'The Beast' may just be the most dominating figure in all of sport and entertainment history.

Batista had a much different journey in WWE but it was almost as dominating as Lesnar. Let's forget the whole Reverend D-Von thing and just pretend that Batista started in WWE with Evolution. He was the muscle of the group and became a beloved and dominant Champion when he defeated his mentor, Triple H, at WrestleMania 21. Batista came into the spotlight as a singles competitor just after Brock Lesnar left the WWE so for me the best time to have these two titans go at it would have been during 'the animals' second run with the company, at WrestleMania 30.

I know that Brock ended The Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania 30 but quite simply I would have done it differently. The streak didn't need Lesnar to end it as you can build an unstoppable beast without ending such a prestigious streak and instead use some good old fashioned booking.

On the other side of things, Batista was fighting in the main event of Mania, alongside Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan, I don't think I need to tell any of you how that could have been better. Yes Daniel Bryan should have ended the night lifting the Championships above his head and I wouldn't of changed a thing about that, just the way he got them. It's no secret that the booking of the main event of WrestleMania 30 was a disaster, why else would it of been changed at the last minute?

Instead you could have had Brock Lesnar and Batista locking horns for the right to be called the most dominant man in the WWE. The Beast vs The Animal would have made for an entertaining concept and the hype speaks for itself. Have Lesnar win and go on to the one sided victory over John Cena at SummerSlam for the WWE Championship and you've got the unstoppable beast without ending the streak. You've also made a pretty awesome dream match in the process.

Number 4 - Roman Reigns vs Goldberg

Who does the spear better? Well we all know the answer is Goldberg but that's how you build this one. Goldberg came back to the WWE at the end of 2016 and had a little run ending in 2017's WrestleMania 33. During this time Roman Reigns was at the top of the pile of full timers in WWE so not only do I think this match should have happened but I'm shocked that it didn't.

These two men are the definition of power and intensity and I think that a quick and spot-filled match would have been wonderful to witness. Spears and Jack-Hammers. Spears and Superman-Punches. Spears and Spears with a side extra of more Spears. Who wouldn't of loved to watch these two monsters smashing into one another at WrestleMania or Royal Rumble?

Let Reigns win to give him the rub he needs and give Goldberg an on his shield ending that he deserves. Instead we had yet another WrestleMania victory for Brock Lesnar and Reigns defeating The Undertaker in the main event to send the fans home with a bitter taste in their mouths for the third year running.

Number 3 - Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Hulk Hogan

The dream match to end all dream matches. Now I'm not saying that I didn't love the dream match we got at WrestleMania 18 with The Rock taking on Hulk Hogan and I'm not even saying that I would replace that, all I'm saying is why the shit did we not get Hulk Hogan vs Stone Cold Steve Austin?!

I personally would have had it at No Way Out 2003. It was at this event that Hulk Hogan took on The Rock for a second time with Rocky playing the evil heel this time. Earlier in the night Stone Cold Steve Austin had a squash match against Eric Bischoff, this was is second to last pay-per-view guys? Eric Bischoff? One of the greatest of all time, against Eric Bischoff, a month before retiring forever! That Sucks! If it was me, I would have had The Rock take on Booker T in a number one contenders match, giving Booker the rub he needed, and have the main event of the night be Hulk Hogan vs Stone Cold Steve Austin! It would have even linked into the awesome Stone Cold vs Rock match at WrestleMania 19.

Anyway you booked this match and whenever you did it would have been absolutely amazing and even if the quality of the match sucked it would still make for one of the very best moments in sport entertainment history!

Number 2 - The Rock vs Shawn Michaels

One of the very best on the mic against one of the very best in the ring! Need I say more?! The promos would write themselves and I think the match would have been pretty damn great.

Say what you will about the rumors of Shawn Michaels being rude to Dwayne's Nan and The Rock not wanting to work with HBK, if Vince put his foot down you could have had the match on multiple occasions and you could have had it for literally any reason you want, it wouldn't matter. These two are the absolute best we've ever seen and would have made the feud entertaining, interesting and unmissable!

More than any other match on this list I am extremely intrigued as to when you would have booked this match and see if together we could create a bit of dream match magic!

Number 1 - The Undertaker vs Sting

Well Of course it was! This is THE match the all fans of WWE and/or WCW have always wanted and lets be honest, still want. The Undertaker is Mr.WWE and as far as characters go he is without a shadow of a doubt the absolute best the WWE have ever seen. Then we have Sting. For the longest time he seemed to be Mr.WCW, choosing to go to TNA and never signing with WWE until we got to Survivor Series 2014. Sting arrived and set up a feud leading to WrestleMania 31 where he took on the WWE COO Triple H. I'm not on my own in thinking it should have been The Undertaker right?

On this night Sting lost to Mr. Helmsley and The Undertaker defeated Bray Wyatt. They were both on the same show and we still didn't get it?! Screw you WWE! Sting and The Undertaker should have stepped into the ring together on this night and let's be honest, the quality of the match would not of been breath taking but I assure you the noise and the atmosphere in the stadium would have been. These are THE two legends of professional wrestling, the original guards of WWE and WCW and up there with the best of all time. I predict that this match would have been bigger than all dream matches that proceeded it.

Let me know what you think in the comment section below and we at RingUnion will read and respond to as many of you as humanly possible.
